Content audit template
The book's 0–3 Information Gain rubric works fine for judging a single paragraph. Scaling it across hundreds of pages needs a repeatable spreadsheet process, not a one-off exercise an editor runs from memory. This is that spreadsheet, already built.
Real rows from the template itself
| Primary Topic | IG Score | Action |
|---|---|---|
| What is BI (generic) | 0 | Retire |
| PulseBoard vs. CompetitorX | 2 | Rewrite |
| Latency benchmark 2025 | 3 | Leave as-is |
Sort completed audits by IG Score ascending — pages scoring 0–1 with non-trivial traffic are your highest-priority rewrite targets, since they consume crawl and content budget while contributing nothing to citation likelihood.
The eight columns it tracks
- URL — the page being audited
- Primary Entity/Topic — the core entity or concept the page addresses
- IG Score (0–3) — scored against the book's rubric
- Proprietary Data? (Y/N) — does it cite first-party data or usage stats?
- Named Framework? (Y/N) — does it introduce an original methodology?
- Answer Block Present? (Y/N) — does the core paragraph follow Direct Answer → Proof → Context?
- Current AI Citation Status — cited, not cited, or unknown
- Action — Rewrite / Consolidate / Retire / Leave As-Is
Data validation on every dropdown column, an auto-calculated Priority Score you never type into manually, and a separate Gap Analysis Log tab for the detailed competitive research — so the main audit tab stays focused on scoring, not buried in notes.
